SEEKING SUNLIGHT
By Laurie Roth
I walk the tears across
hillsides dripping red desire,
after you
refused to find
the way through
your private battleground
to the other side:
and melt in love’s sweet laughter.
The oaks have caught a blight
no leaves are stretching from their branches.
Yet, they stand upright, majestic, proud
Caught ‘tween life’s light
and death’s dim shroud.
Watching, waiting, holding tight
But without the breath to fight
As you, with lichen around your heart
Stiffen, gasp…………and then
Abruptly choose to let in Light
that pushes outward.
Hissing, scraping, stamping, crying
singing, laughing, dancing, howlin,
in the new wind blowing
straight from the soundless sound
deep within the center atom
of your tender tear torn love.
