Poetry: The Dance of the Heart

Oak trees with blight
SEEKING SUNLIGHT
By  Laurie Roth

I walk the tears across
hillsides dripping red desire,
after you
refused to find
the way through
your private battleground
to the other side:
and melt in love’s sweet laughter.

The oaks have caught a blight
no leaves are stretching from their branches.
Yet, they stand upright, majestic, proud
Caught ‘tween life’s light
and death’s dim shroud.
Watching, waiting, holding tight
But without the breath to fight
As you, with lichen around your heart
Stiffen, gasp…………and then
Abruptly choose to let in Light
that pushes outward.
Hissing, scraping, stamping, crying
singing, laughing, dancing, howlin,
in the new wind blowing
straight from the soundless sound
deep within the center atom
of your tender tear torn love.

I find writing a poems a great way to express myself and it moves me along into some other part of myself.
Please feel free to leave your poem (or link) as long as it is respectful.

  1. Oh, Moon Goddess in Bliss so close
    to the truth
    that one should ner deviate
    to stay satiate in
    one’s happy state.

  2. Sweet life
    of wood and green plant
    birds on a limb
    of pine
The summer scent in the air
    I think we have forgotten
what it feels like to be alive
    not burdened by fear
    My tender heart knows
    this place of innocence and
    grace
    Not needed to create
    already here
    Nearer than near
    We must return
    to go on
    We must touch
and smell and love to dwell
    upon the earth
    Something has come over us
and is time to come back
come back to what is innately real
so we can go on to
    Live on
    This earth
    and not kill.

  3. Hi Laurie,

I’m drawn to the intensity of your poetry and
how it moves you to another facet of yourself.
My Haiku poetry creates an opening for
me and transforms me to more peaceful
    feelings.

  4. Here is another poem from a wonderful woman who says she hardly ever writes poems but looked at the site and wrote this.
    Thank you Philippa.

    Firefly

    I have traveled far
    And been through many seasons

I have met others along the way
A few who have deeply touched my soul

    I found other fireflies
Whose light was strong in them

    We recognized each other
There was strength born of trial and courage

    Spent some time together
    Basking in the light

Then moved on to follow our respective paths
The fates had chosen for us

I have also met people with no light
    And there was no connection

What I seek now and for a lifetime
Is a firefly heading in the same direction
